For today’s fashion retailers, success isn’t measured solely by how many shoppers walk through the door. It’s about how effectively brands continue engaging customers after they leave the store. Consumers increasingly expect personalised experiences, exclusive member privileges, and timely recommendations delivered through the messaging platforms they use every day. At the same time, retailers are facing growing pressure to build first-party customer relationships as customer acquisition becomes more competitive and privacy regulations reshape digital marketing. For G2000 Malaysia, this challenge looked different from many retailers.
While the brand operates various physical stores nationwide, complemented by seasonal pop-up activations and third-party marketplaces, it does not rely on a traditional e-commerce website. As a result, many valuable in-store interactions ended at the point of purchase, leaving customer data fragmented across physical touchpoints and limiting opportunities for personalised follow-up engagement. Recognising this opportunity, G2000 partnered with Omnichat to transform WhatsApp into the digital extension of every physical store, enabling the brand to convert walk-in shoppers into long-term, engaged customers.
Rather than treating each marketing campaign as a standalone initiative, G2000 developed a unified Offline-to-Online (OMO) strategy centred around three key objectives:
Every in-store interaction became an opportunity to build a richer understanding of each customer. Visitors scanned WhatsApp QR codes placed throughout stores, promotional booths, and event activations, enabling G2000 to capture first-party customer data and instantly deliver personalised messages and digital coupons. Beyond collecting contact details, Omnichat automatically enriched customer profiles with demographic information, campaign participation, behavioural tags, coupon activity and product interests. These insights formed the foundation for highly targeted customer journeys that extended well beyond the initial store visit.
“Without an e-commerce website, our physical stores became our biggest acquisition channel. Omnichat helped us transform every store visit into a valuable digital customer relationship through WhatsApp,” said Queenie Lim Qwer Qwin, Marketing Manager, G2000 Malaysia
One of G2000’s strongest-performing initiatives was its nationwide Digital Gashapon Campaign, designed to turn in-store footfall into an interactive digital experience. Shoppers scanned QR codes in-store to access a WhatsApp-powered Gashapon game, where they could participate and instantly receive digital vouchers for in-store redemption.
The campaign attracted more than 1,000 participants and achieved an impressive in-store redemption rate of over 90%, demonstrating how a simple conversational experience could encourage customers to take immediate action in-store.
Rather than separating digital engagement from the physical shopping experience, the campaign connected the two, turning WhatsApp participation into measurable retail activity.
G2000 saw similarly strong engagement when it brought gamification into its membership strategy. During its Member Day Multiplier Campaign, members were invited to participate in a WhatsApp-powered Scratch & Win experience for a chance to multiply their membership points by up to 10.
The response was immediate. Within eight hours, the campaign generated more than 100 game plays and attracted new customer registrations.
“Gamification made the campaign more engaging for our members. Instead of simply receiving another promotion, customers could participate, enjoy the experience and unlock additional membership rewards,” said Queenie Lim Qwer Qwin Qwer Qwin, Marketing Manager at G2000 Malaysia. By combining membership incentives with an interactive experience, G2000 gave customers another reason to engage with the brand while creating a more memorable Member Day experience.
Behind the success of these initiatives was a broader strategy to connect G2000’s physical retail touchpoints with a digital customer ecosystem that could support acquisition, engagement and long-term loyalty.
One example of this approach was an experiential lead-generation campaign conducted across six G2000 retail locations. Customers visiting participating stores could scan a QR code at an on-site booth, triggering an automated WhatsApp welcome message and a digital coupon for complimentary popcorn or ice cream.
What appeared to customers as a simple in-store giveaway also became an effective channel for customer acquisition for G2000. The campaign generated new customer leads and achieved over 70% redemption among new contacts, demonstrating how physical footfall could be converted into identifiable digital audiences through a simple WhatsApp journey.
More importantly, those interactions did not have to end once the coupon was redeemed. The customer profiles and behavioural data collected could support future segmentation, personalised broadcasts and re-engagement campaigns.
As G2000’s customer database grew, segmentation became increasingly important. Instead of sending the same promotion to its entire audience, the team could use customer information, membership status and behavioural activity to identify relevant groups and deliver more curated communications.
This allowed WhatsApp to support different stages of the customer lifecycle, from acquisition and member-exclusive broadcasts to seasonal engagement, event invitations and repeat-purchase initiatives.
For G2000, personalisation therefore extended beyond inserting a customer’s name into a message. It meant understanding which customers should receive a particular experience and creating campaigns specifically for those audiences. “WhatsApp allows us to continue engaging customers beyond their store visit. The customer insights we collect also help us understand our audience better and create more relevant experiences for them,” said Queenie Lim Qwer Qwin.
Chinese New Year allowed G2000 to combine personalisation, exclusivity and gamification across its festive customer engagement. For the Chinese New Year Gift Bucket Campaign, G2000 identified high-value customer segments and sent them exclusive WhatsApp invitations to collect a festive Gift Bucket. Automated collection reminders helped maintain engagement after the initial message, while the campaign achieved a click-through rate of more than 50%. Alongside the Gift Bucket initiative, G2000 introduced the 888 Fortune Wheel, adding an interactive element to the festive customer journey. Following qualifying in-store purchases, customers could access the WhatsApp-powered game and receive digital rebate coupons designed to encourage their next store visit.
The campaign recorded a play rate exceeding 100%, signalling strong re-engagement, while around one in four participants shared the game with their contacts, helping the experience reach audiences beyond the original participants. Together, the campaigns demonstrated two different approaches to festive customer engagement: using targeted rewards to strengthen relationships with high-value members, while introducing gamification to encourage participation and repeat visits.
Beyond traditional promotional campaigns, WhatsApp has proven an exceptionally effective channel for G2000 Malaysia to support its experiential retail initiatives. By bridging digital touchpoints with physical store environments, the brand successfully enhances the overall customer journey.
A prime example was the Pavilion Damansara Heights Styling Workshop, where G2000 used Omnichat’s platform to streamline event registration and management from start to finish. The brand implemented personalised invitations, automated RSVP confirmations, and timely reminder messages to ensure a seamless, frictionless experience for participants.
The conversational engagement strategy delivered outstanding results, achieving a high attendance rate. These metrics show how direct, interactive communication can drive participation in offline experiences while strengthening long-term customer relationships. Similarly, G2000 deployed targeted WhatsApp broadcasts to support its interactive Techwork Pop-up activation. These conversational broadcasts effectively encouraged customers to attend the in-person event, explore the brand’s new collections, and join G2000’s growing customer community.
Today, G2000 has connected its physical retail network with a unified digital engagement strategy powered by Omnichat. Over the first half of the year, the platform facilitated thousands of WhatsApp conversations, with the vast majority handled automatically, helping the team scale personalised engagement more efficiently. Through targeted WhatsApp broadcasts and Omnichat’s Customer Data Platform, interactions such as voucher claims, store visits and QR code scans continuously enrich customer profiles with valuable first-party data.
This has contributed to a significant uplift in member registrations while enabling more data-driven, personalised campaigns that strengthen engagement, loyalty and repeat purchases. Customer insights have also helped G2000 refine its social media strategy, resulting in a strong increase in engagement.
“Every interaction now contributes to a richer understanding of our customers. That enables us to create more relevant experiences, communicate more personally and build stronger long-term relationships both online and in our physical stores,” said Queenie Lim Qwer Qwin, Marketing Manager, G2000 Malaysia.
